
Animating Columba is an educational CD-Rom for primary schools covering a range of curriculum core skills including literacy, ICT and creativity. This interactive resource uses different styles of animation to explore the legends of the famous Irish saint and scholar. Pupils can gain a real insight into the artistic life of Irish monasteries through a range of cretive activities. Animating Columba promotes creative learning across a range of curriculum subjects from R.E. and History to English and Art.
Exploring Life in Early Times through ICT
In this workshop pupils will be introduced to a world of 6th century monastery, visiting the Scriptorium where manuscripts were produced and the Church where religious servides were held. They will follow in the footsteps of Columba and hear interactive stories such as the encounter between Columba and the Loch Ness Monster.
The workshop offers young children engagement with creative activities such as colouring in pages of the Book of Kells, creating a musical cross and editing extracts from an animated film on the life of Columba created by Eglinton and Craigbrack primary schools.
Using digital storytelling software such as Comic Life or PhotoStory. the pupils will have the opportunity to create a digital story exploring monastic life.
