The Crumblegiant  
The Crumblegiant is a short animated film which was written an animated by Derry-based animator John McCloskey who received a Bafta nomination for it in 2008 . In the film an old woman remembers a childhood episode and the past becomes mingled with the present. Bernard Hill (Lord of the Ring ,Titanic) narrates a story in which demons are recalled and banished in an elegantly-animated world of imagination and memories. The story is a whimsical fairytale about Emily, as a little girl, and the Crumblegiant, her imaginary friend and protector.

Exploring Film Language and Animation
A series of activities exploring film language and animation have been developed around The Crumblegiant. During this workshop pupils will explore basic film language concepts such as the 3 C's and the 3 S's - Character, Camera, Colour, Story, Settings, and Sound. Pupils will then look at animation techniques such as visual style, creating a sense of movement, before learning how to draw a sequence as a storyboard for an animation.

Pupils will learn how to use animation software suitable for primary level to create a short animated sequence around a chosen theme.
